Someone Must be doing Something right.
When it comes to discipline I am the queen. Jason is the "good time Charlie", who is always sneaking treats to the boys after I have said no (Big surprise there, right?), but when he puts his foot down, he puts it down. So Sunday evening Casey refuses eat his chicken and potatoes and instead chooses to sit at the table for an hour (his choice) and make a HUGE mess all over the floor, chair and table. So his punishment was no FHE treat as decided by the Queen and her slightly less royal husband. Fine. So the night progresses and we (Zach, Jay and I) delve into the chocolaty goodness that is our FHE treat. Poor, poor Casey just looked so utterly pathetic and distressed as he watched us indulge (Oink) ourselves. I felt so bad for his nearly breaking heart,so after we were done, I found a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie and snuck it into my room. I then, very stealthily, called Casey into my room and told him he could have the cookie, but he couldn't tell dad and he had to eat it in his hiding spot (at the moment it is a air mattress propped up against the wall next to my computer desk) So he runs and hides in his top secret spot and I go about doing my homework. All of a sudden I see a head pop out from the other side of the air mattress and a hand with a slightly nibbled cookie. "Mom?", he said," We should always tell the truth." I was in shock. My little boy was willing to get into more trouble by telling the truth than just eat the cookie and get away with it and sell me out at the same time! (side note: Most kids, Zach included, would have gobbled that thing up and lied about it until the cows came home.) So being the fabulous mom that I am, I realized the valuble life lesson I could give him (ok so that isn't acctually how it happened, me realizing it was a great life lesson, but just pretend),looked down at him and asked him if he thought that we should go tell Dad what we had done. "Yeth Momma." So into the Lions den, we walked, hand in hand, unsure of our fate. I took the lead and explained my part in the heist. Then went on to explain why we were coming clean. "Believe me, it wasn't my idea, I would have of gotten away with it. (insert: "if it weren't for you meddling kids") So Jason took the cookie away, but then told Casey that because he came and told the truth and was willing to get in trouble for what he had done, he could have the cookie. Well if his face just didn't go from droopy to grinning ear from ear.
