"Why are you crying, it's silly to cry. It's just a gingerbread house!" This is what I thought to myself as I was handed a beautiful gingerbread house made by Sis. Dahl's 15 year old Sunday school class. I held back tears of gratitude as I accepted this yummy little house, with a gumdrop duck, sitting by a candy blue pond. Let me take you back to yesterday, as I let the guilt of me pushing off Christmas traditions with my children in lieu of studying for finals. I finally decided that this was the day that we would make our Gingerbread house...partly inspired by Rebecca and her children's delicious looking model home(actually, it made me realize that we hadn't done ours yet, and yes....it completely slipped my mind), so on the information from my mother, we set off for Costco to pick up a kit. I searched high and low and finally decided to ask an employee, who very sweetly told me that they were out and he was not sure when they would get any in. So off to Walmart, surely they would have them at Wal-mart. Nope wrong again. Every place I went to yesterday was sold out of gingerbread kits. EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!!!! Needless to say, the boys were crushed, I was crushed. To them and me, the best part of making it is eating all the candy, oh...and spending time together. I was all ready to head out on Monday in search of this elusive kit, when Sis. Dahl stopped me and told me she had something for me. I, being the one always in trouble at church growing up(to much talking or just being silly) flashed the thought...."oh man...what did I do?", through my mind! I was so touched and taken a back by this gift...that my eyes immediately started to well up. She had no idea about the elusive hunt for the rare but wiley gingerbread kit, or the fact that during the next week, it would be almost impossible for me to find the time to make one with my boys let alone look for one. A prayer had been asnswered, it may have been a silly little prayer about a gingerbread house, but a prayer none the less.So yes it may be just a gingerbread house, but for me it is one of the best and best looking Christmas memories I have!
P.S. I would have posted a picture...but the boys have started a full frontal assult on the house.
